Become an Internship Partner

Nazareth Prep is an independent Catholic high school for students of all faiths that provides an affordable, innovative education focused on college and career readiness. Through a rigorous yet personalized academic curriculum and unique internship program, Nazareth Prep students build skills that empower them to transform their lives.

Who We Serve

Nazareth Prep is one of the most diverse private high schools in Pittsburgh and 90% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. These statistics reflect our commitment to developing the talent of students and supporting the agency of families seeking better futures for their children regardless of background or ability to pay. As a result of this commitment, Nazareth Prep is an amazing community of dynamic young people that embody the best of the human potential of this region's economy.

Academic Curriculum

Nazareth Prep students are compassionate, creative and critical thinkers, and problem-solvers. Our curriculum is rooted in our mission to prepare young adults to powerfully contribute in the workplace, to live lives of faith, meaning and service, and to fully participate in civic life. Our curriculum equips students to excel in college or in a high-demand career pathway in our local region immediately after graduation.

Each academic year, all students take core courses in the disciplines of science, math, humanities, and religious studies. Junior and senior students also take Advanced Placement courses in the core disciplines of math, science, and English. All courses help students develop competence and skill in core subject matter and apply that knowledge to complex real-world professional problems. Nazareth Prep is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS).

WEEKLY INTERNSHIP Program

Since 2014, Nazareth Prep has focused on preparation for both college and career. Our innovative workforce development program has allowed our students to participate in a weekly internship with local companies. This internship experience exposes our students to professional environments and provides them with practical skills that help to enhance their employability. It also allows our teaching staff to align the education curriculum with industry needs and gives students the chance to apply classroom knowledge in practical settings. By equipping our students with these in-demand skills early on, we are helping to close the education-to-employment gap in our region.

Is the Nazareth Prep internship model unique?

To the Pittsburgh region, yes, but over 30 major US cities have a high school where internships are part of the curriculum, including Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati. Nazareth Prep’s students will graduate in four years like those at a traditional high school but with the advantage of having four years of invaluable exposure to a variety of corporate environments.

How are students under 16 allowed to intern?

Nazareth Prep has a waiver from the Department of Labor allowing students age 14 and older to participate in the internship program. The student is NOT an employee of the internship partner. We handle all paperwork, provide all insurance and transportation, and administer a mandatory drug screen at the start of each school year.

What do students do all day at their internships?

While each internship varies, most companies have the students rotate through different departments, gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to diverse roles within the organization. Students often work in areas such as human resources, marketing, IT, finance, and administrative services.

How long do the internships last?

Students are transported to their workplace by 9:30 a.m. and are picked up before 3 p.m. Internships begin in September and end in May with holidays off.

“We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this program, which in turn enables us to work with exceptional future employees and leaders.
