JOB POSTING: Long-Term Substitute Teacher – Humanities (AP English Language & AP English Literature)

Hours: Part-Time, 10-month position. Some evenings and weekends for special events.

We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Nazareth Prep High School is seeking a highly motivated and qualified long-term substitute teacher to join our Humanities department for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year (present - mid-June 2025). This is a unique opportunity with the potential for future part-time or full-time employment.
Course Responsibilities
AP English Literature:
Teach one section of AP English Literature, aiming to cultivate students' appreciation for literary art and their ability to engage in sophisticated literary analysis.
Prepare students for the AP Literature exam by:
Developing their capacity to form and articulate clear lines of reasoning from thesis to subclaims, supported by rigorous textual evidence.
Providing extensive practice in analyzing broad literary themes through diverse, student-selected texts.
AP English Language:
Teach one section of AP English Language, focusing on developing students' understanding of rhetoric and their ability to analyze and produce effective communication.
Prepare students for the AP Language exam by:
Enhancing their skills in rhetorical analysis of various texts, enabling them to identify and evaluate rhetorical strategies.
Providing comprehensive practice in argumentative writing and rhetorical analysis, with an emphasis on choosing appropriate evidence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Studies, English, Humanities, or Education (preferred).
Master’s Degree Preferred.
Familiarity with the AP English curriculum (strongly preferred).
Strong understanding of critical thinking, writing, and analysis skills.
Ability to effectively engage and motivate high school students.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Passion for fostering a love of learning.
Commitment to student success and academic achievement.
Current Act 33/34 and FBI clearances with a valid PA driver’s license required.
