JOB POSTING: Long-Term Substitute Teacher – Humanities (AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP US History, and Literature)
Reports to: Vice President, Academic & Student Affairs/Head of School
Hours: Contract, Hourly Position (Present - Mid-June 2025) with the possibility of future part time or full-time employment in summer and fall.

Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Nazareth Prep High School is seeking a dynamic and qualified long-term substitute teacher to join our Humanities Department for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year (present - mid-June 2025). This is a unique opportunity with the potential for future part-time or full-time employment. The schedule involves a rotating block schedule with all classes meeting on the same day, including an hour for preparation and lunch at midday.
Course Responsibilities:
9th Grade Humanities 1 (AP Human Geography and Literature): Teach one section of AP Human Geography, fostering students' understanding of global patterns, processes, and interactions. Integrate relevant literary works to enhance analytical and critical thinking skills.
10th Grade Humanities 2 (AP World History and Literature): Teach one section of AP World History, exploring major historical events, themes, and global connections. Incorporate diverse literary selections to deepen students' comprehension of historical contexts and human experiences.
AP US History: Teach two sections of AP US History, guiding students through the critical analysis of significant periods and events in United States history.
General Responsibilities for All Courses:
Challenge students of all abilities with analytical and critical thinking content that goes beyond the recall of information.
Cultivate students' growth as critical readers and writers through engaging activities and assignments.
Support students' development into mature and responsible young adults.
Prepare students for the AP exams in each subject area, while maintaining a focus on the learning journey and skill development rather than solely on exam outcomes.
Effectively manage classroom dynamics and create a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Studies (History, Geography), English, Humanities, or Education (preferred).
Master’s Degree Preferred.
Familiarity with the AP curriculum in Human Geography, World History, and US History (preferred).
Strong understanding of analytical and critical thinking methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate high school students with diverse learning styles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Passion for fostering a love of learning and intellectual curiosity.
Commitment to student success, academic growth, and personal development.
Current Act 33/34 and FBI clearances with a valid PA driver’s license required.

Pay Range: $21-25 per hour
